This trip marks Andy’s second time in China, but will be his first trip to Beijing, and he looks forward to not only documenting and supporting Canada’s artists, but also experiencing the incredibly rich and diverse culture that China has to offer. He will be joining Canada’s delegation as they travel to China representing Canada with the opportunity to build relationships, grow cultural understanding, and partake in learning and cultural exchange. He sees this as an amazing opportunity to not only share this incredible experience with his fellow Canadians through the documentary, but also as a chance to grow his strong bonds with the Canadian arts community as he follows them on this momentous journey and builds his own understanding and experience. This amazing opportunity furthers Andy’s life’s work of promoting Canadian arts, but now gives him the opportunity to work with them on a world stage. Andy is excited to be working with The Canadian Fund for International Understanding through Culture (Can4Culture) whose work has been vital to this project. Can4Culture have been working in consultation with the Canadian and Chinese agencies to prepare and coordinate on behalf of Canada’s delegation.

About Meet in Beijing Art Festival

Meet in Beijing Arts Festival is a large-scale international festival hosted by China’s Ministry of Culture, Beijing Municipality Government, and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.  The programming for the event is produced by China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG), who have been responsible for it since the festival’s inauguration. The Meet in Beijing Arts Festival aims to enrich the cultural life of Beijing and to promote Chinese culture and arts as well as promoting cultural exchange with the other participating countries. During the festival, now in its 16th year, more than 400 artists from 25 countries will join 400 Chinese performers to stage more than 100 performances and two theme exhibitions in Beijing. This year’s theme is “Romance in Spring” and will feature Canada as the Guest Country of Honor. This is a huge honor for Canada, as highlighted by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in his letter of congratulations. “Over the past 16 years, it has become one of China’s foremost cultural events, and on behalf of the Government of Canada, we are honored to be the featured country this year”.
