The Goh Legacy Film

The Goh Legacy Film

Synopsis

The Goh Ballet Academy, known as both a Main Street staple and one of Canada’s most prestigious institutes of dance, has always called Vancouver its home. But the Goh family legacy began even before the academy first opened its doors over 40 years ago.

This documentary traces the life stories of Choo Chiat and Lin Yee Goh, two lead dancers at the National Ballet of China who, after falling in love, moved to Canada at the height of political unrest in the 1970s. Their academy has since become a local mainstay, fostering an interest in dance for generations of kids and adults alike.

We also look to a bright future through the eyes of their daughter, Chan-hon Goh, principal dancer of Canada’s National Ballet for 20 years, and current director of the academy.
